The outbreak of campylobacteriosis caused by raw milk from a Pennsylvania farm has sickened at least 78 people, the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services reported Thursday.

Two of the confirmed cases are from New Jersey — a 27-year-old man and a 3-year-old boy, health department officials said in a news release. The raw milk was purchased from the Your Family Cow dairy in Pennsylvania. The sale or distribution of raw milk is banned in New Jersey.

“It is important to note that this outbreak occurred despite the fact that Family Cow Dairy is licensed, inspected, and operating in compliance with Pennsylvania laws,” the health department noted.

Lab tests conducted in Maryland confirmed Campylobacter bacteria in two unopened containers of unpasteurized milk collected from homes of Your Family Cow customers. The widespread outbreak has sickened people in Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia and New Jersey.
