# Smoked Split Herring Recall

Quirch Foods Co. of Miami, FL is recalling Leslie Leger and Sons Ltd. brand Salted Smoked Split Herring.

A routine sample collected at a retail store by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets found the product to be uneviscerated. Clostridium Botulinum spores, which can cause botulism, are more likely to be concentrated in the viscera than any other portion of the fish.

No illnesses have been reported.

The recall involves all lots of Leslie Leger and Sons Ltd. brand, Salted Smoked Split Herring, Plant Reg # 2406, Producer: Leslie Leger and Sons LTD, Cap Pele, NB, Canada. The product was distributed in 18-pound wooden boxes (40-60 count) to supermarkets and distributors in Florida, Georgia, Puerto Rico and Nassau BF. It was packaged at retail per customer request.

Consumers are cautioned not to consume this product, even if it does not look or smell spoiled. The product should immediately be returned to the store where it was purchased.
