Chicken pate has been implicated as the possible source of an outbreak of foodborne illness that sickened 80 guests following a fundraising dinner at the luxury Lowry Hotel near Manchester, England.

According to a story in the [Daily Mail online edition](http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2066127/Hotels-chicken-pate-centre-food-poisoning-probe-80-guests-fall-ill-fundraiser.html?ito=feeds-newsxml&ref=foodsafetynews.com), lab test have confirmed that a number of the guests who reported symptoms of dizziness, fever and vomiting were infected by Campylobacter.

Dr. Rosemary McCann, a consultant with the UK’s Health Protection Authority, told the newspaper that the investigation is continuing, including analysis of a food-history questionnaire returned by the guests.

About 200 people attended the charity function to raise funds for The Message Trust youth organization.

The 164-room hotel, on the River Irwell in Salford, was built in 2001 and is part of the Rocco Forte hotel group. Two months ago it was awarded a five-star hygiene rating, the top rating, by the Environmental Health Office.
