# Salmonella Concern Prompts Cheese Spread Recall

A Virginia company is recalling its cheese spread because it may be contaminated with Salmonella.

Miss Bonnie’s Gourmet cheese company was notified of the problem after routine sampling by the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration [news release](http://www.fda.gov/Safety/Recalls/ucm267830.htm?ref=foodsafetynews.com).

No illnesses have been reported in connection with the cheese spread.

The Winchester, VA-based company is recalling its Miss Bonnie’s Gourmet-brand Classic Cheddar Cheese Spread, which is sold in 8 oz. glass jars with a “best by date” of Dec. 23, 2011 and the batch code number 0116206G113\. The recall does not involve any other Miss Bonnie products.

The cheese spread was distributed between Aug. 1 and Aug. 01, 2011 to Kroger Stores in Roanoke, Virginia; Cincinnati, Ohio; Louisville, Kentucky; and Memphis, Tennessee.

Consumers who purchased the recalled cheddar cheese spread may return it to the store where it was purchased for a refund. Consumers with questions may contact Miss Bonnie’s Gourmet at 540-686-7634.
