# More Sandwiches Recalled in Canada

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Co-op Atlantic have issued [another warning](https://www.foodsafetynews.com/ham-and-cheese-sandwiches-contain-listeria-cfia-warns/) to the public not to consume the assorted sandwich products sold in areas of Quebec and the Atlantic provinces.

Sold at grocery stores, the sandwich products may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. No illnesses have yet been associated with the recalled products.

This recall is being initiated as these sandwich products may contain p[rocessed cheese slices recalled](https://www.foodsafetynews.com/canadian-sandwich-recall-expanded/) by Saputo Inc., Montreal, Quebec.

All sandwiches, subs, wraps and cheeseburgers containing processed cheese with best before dates up to and including Dec. 1, 2010 are included in the recall. The sandwich products are sold in Co-op, ValuFoods and RiteStop stores in the Atlantic provinces and the Magdalen Islands, Quebec.

Food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes may not look or smell spoiled, according to CFIA.

Consumption of food contaminated with these bacteria may cause listeriosis, a foodborne illness.

Listeriosis can cause high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness and nausea. Pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk. Infected pregnant women may experience only a mild, flu-like illness, however, infections during pregnancy can lead to premature delivery, infection of the newborn, or even stillbirth.

Co-op Atlantic, Moncton, New Brunswick is voluntarily recalling the affected products from the marketplace. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
