The annual National Food Policy Conference will be held September 22 and 23 in Washington, DC this year. Hosted and coordinated by the Consumer Federation of America and the Grocery Manufacturers Association, the conference will focus on child nutrition and health.

The event, now in its 34th year, is a “collaboration between consumer advocates, the food industry, and government,” according to the organizers. “It is a key national gathering for those interested in agriculture, food, and nutrition policy.”

“The conference will explore how to assure sustainability for these programs, examine food labeling issues, and discuss the application of the new Dietary Guidelines. Speakers and panelists will examine changes to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program; discuss how to assure healthy environments for low-income children; explore the challenges of making healthier food products; and look at how best to incorporate evaluation into program development.”

The conference will fall just a week after the [United Fresh Produce Association’s annual public policy conference](https://www.foodsafetynews.com/united-fresh-washington-public-policy-conference/), which is scheduled for September 14 through the 16 in Washington, DC, will focus on the fresh-cut segment and on small farms, local and regional food systems, and pesticide residues.
