Barb Pruitt became ill with a Salmonella typhimurium infection during a 2009 outbreak that was traced back to lettuce from the Salinas Valley in California. Barb's illness quickly became life-threatening, and she spent over a moth in the hospital. Due to her Salmonella infection, Barb will suffer severe gastrointestinal problems for the rest of her life.
