Pistachios Recalled for Salmonella Risk

A California company is recalling certain lots of its pistachio products because they may be contaminated with Salmonella.

Western Mixers Produce & Nut Company of Los Angeles, CA issued a voluntary recall of its roasted and salted nuts processed by ARO Pistachio and distributed under the Treasured Harvest brand Wednesday.

The recalled pistachios were sold through mail order, retail stores and distribution centers in California, Nevada, Ohio and Utah between October 17, 2012 and April 29, 2013.

The recall was initiated after testing by the California Department of Health revealed the presence of Salmonella in the product.

Product subject to the recall is labeled as Treasure Harvest Roasted & Salted Pistachios and was sold in three sizes: a 6 oz. plastic cup, of which lot numbers 123050, 123140, 123320, 123450, 123360, 130150, 130240 and 130350 are being recalled; a 12 oz. clear plastic bag of lot number 130290; and a 28 oz. clear plastic tray of lot numbers 123100, 122960, 123040.

The pistachios were processed by ARO in 2012, according to the recall announcement.

Consumers who have purchased the recalled product should destroy it or return it to its point of purchase for a full refund.
