Nestlé Recalls Chocolate Powder for Salmonella Risk

Nestlé USA has issued a voluntary recall of chocolate powder that may be contaminated with Salmonella.

The Glendale, California-based arm of international Nestlé is recalling a limited quantity of its Nesquik Chocolate Powder because the product was made with a food-grade limestone ingredient recalled Tuesday by Omya because it might contain Salmonella.

Nesquik is made with calcium carbonate, a dietary supplement used to promote bone growth that’s found in limestone.

Product subject to this recall was sold nationally in 10.9, 21.8 and 40.7 oz. canisters.

Each size can be identified by the UPC and production codes listed below.

– 40.7 oz. (72 servings) canisters bear UPC 0 28000 68230 9 and production code 2282574810 or 2282574820.

Production codes are printed on the bottom of each canister, a Nestle spokeswoman told Food Safety News.

Consumers who have purchased the affected product should not consume it and should return it to its point of purchase.
