A Mississippi firm is recalling approximately 314 pounds of sausage products because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. Enslin & Son Packing Company of Hattiesburg, MS, issued a voluntary recall of it’s “Cedar Grove Red Hots” Friday after the company received test results showing that the product had tested positive for Listeria. Product had already been shipped to retail establishments in Meridian and Philadelphia, MS when the company acquired the test results. The sausages were produced on July 16 and sold in 1.5 pound and 2 pound packages, each bearing establishment number “P-31806” inside the USDA mark of inspection. They are marked with a use or freeze by date of either 09/24/12 or 09/28/12. When a list of retailers who received the product becomes available, it will be posted on the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service website. Customers with questions about this recall can contact the company’s President, Augustus Enslin, at 601-582-9300. No illnesses have been linked to consumption of this product to date. Symptoms of listeriosis (infection with Listeria bacteria) can begin anywhere from several days to 2 months after ingesting the bacteria. They include fever, muscle aches, nausea and diarrhea. If you think you may have contracted a Listeria infection, contact your healthcare provider.
