Flours, Legumes, Spices Recalled for Allergens

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration and Santos Agency, Inc. announced Friday that Santos Agency was voluntarily recalling Santos Brands Products for undeclared peanuts and wheat in California. 

bulgur-wheat406x250.jpgConsumers who are allergic to peanut or wheat allergens may run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume any of the products, which are affixed with a label on the front side, packed in

clear, plastic bags and there are no UPC codes, lot codes, or expiration

dates on the products. The labels consist of a design of a house

bordered by two columns with the word “SANTOS” on the roof of the house.

The following Santos Brands Products (packed in USA) were shipped to retail stores throughout California only between May 2011 and May 2012.

Bulgur Wheat (USA packaging only) – 2lbs
Sooji (Farina) (USA packaging only) – 2lbs
Urid Split (USA packaging only) – 2lbs, 4lbs
Fennel Seed (USA packaging only) – 3.5oz, 7oz, 14oz, 2lbs
Deggi Mirch (USA packaging only)t – 7oz, 14oz, 2lbs
Ginger Powder (USA packaging only) – 7oz, 16oz, 2lbs
All Purpose Flour (USA packaging only) – 2lbs, 5lbs
Cumin Seeds (USA packaging only) – 7oz, 14oz, 2lbs
Mustard Seed (USA packaging only) – 3.5oz, 16oz
Garam Masala (USA packaging only) – 7oz, 16oz
Cinnamon Sticks (USA packaging only) – 7oz, 14oz
Garbanzo Beans (USA packaging only) – 2lbs, 4lbs
Urid Split (USA packaging only) – 2lbs, 4lbs
Mace Whole (USA packaging only) – 3.5oz, 7oz
Cardamom (USA packaging only) – 3.5oz, 14oz

The recall was initiated after it was discovered that the products were cross packaged on shared equipment with peanuts and wheat flour.

Similar products of the Santos Brand that bears UPC codes and label

indicates that it was packed in India are NOT part of this recall.

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.

Consumers who purchased any of the listed products above are urged to return it to Santos Agency Inc for a full refund.  Consumers with questions may contact the company at 510-357-0277 from Tuesday to Saturday 9am – 5pm Pacific Standard Time.

    Peanuts and shellfish can produce life-threatening allergic reaction, but still adequate measures are not taken seriously by food companies and public schools to prevent a tragedy from happening. Wake up people…One life is not worth losing before measures are implemented.
