Major Duties:
Here's what you will be assigned to do:
1. Supervise several Consumer Safety Officers (Band 4) who perform investigations and analysis regarding administrative of civil enforcement matters pertaining to commercial establishments operating under a grant of Federal inspection, including managing the collection of information pertaining to recall activities, consumer complaints, or other public health concerns.
2. Participates with the District Manager and Deputies in the formulation of operational policies, procedures and programs including long-range goals and priorities for program verification activities within the district. Determines the adequacy and accessibility of resources and information to enable direct reports to function together as part of a cohesive food safety team. Adjusts work activities and schedules of direct reports' changing priorities.
3. Supervises and coordinates assessment of the plants design of their control systems and overall food safety assessment (FSA) of product considering all food safety aspects from farm to table. Schedules assessments in a manner that accomplishes the agency goal to perform a comprehensive assessment at each plant within the 4-year cycle. Provides guidance and recommendations to subordinates on advanced methods and tools used during assessments.
4. Makes recommendations to help the District Office overall in improving the quality of FSA reviews, by assuring assessments are comprehensive, contain a thorough analysis of the facts, and are completed in a manner consistent with the Advanced EIAO Methodology training.
5. Analyzes and reviews reports and data in order to evaluate compliance with HACCP and other regulatory requirements, ensuring that inspection resources are appropriately focused on food safety priorities. Oversees the evaluation of data used to identify trends in noncompliance and/or the need to focus additional attention on problem areas.
6. Supervises complex inquiries associated with in-plant administrative or civil enforcement matters related to the safety of meat, poultry and egg products. Reviews evidence and develops testimony to support Agency enforcement actions assuring that evidence is admissible in formal administrative or civil proceedings. Reviews reports of investigative findings and makes final recommendations to the District Office regarding determinations and what type of enforcement actions are necessary.
7. Supervises and manages the collection of information and records regarding potential adulterated or misbranded products at issue and prepares Agency's official response. Assures that accurate and timely information is provided to the District Office and the recall staff. As a member of the recall committee, contributes authoritative expertise in determining the necessity of recall proceedings and the appropriate recall classification. Determines the number of effectiveness checks needed during a recall; conducts said effectiveness checks and prepares report of findings.

All applicants need to meet minimum education requirements for this position by the closing date of this announcement. The minimum education requirements are education above high school that included 30 semester hours of related science coursework (i.e. animal science, chemistry, food science and nutrition, public health science, microbiology, zoology etc.).
