You will join a growing and dynamic group working on hepatitis surveillance, outbreak investigation, and prevention planning. You will conduct evaluation projects, analyze and publish hepatitis surveillance data, and investigate unusual hepatitis cases/outbreaks. The NYC DOHMH Division of Disease Control, Bureau of Communicable Disease is responsible for tracking over 73 infectious diseases and conditions, and investigating disease outbreaks in New York City. Acute and chronic viral hepatitis B and C surveillance and prevention are priority areas for the Bureau. Duties include: -- Design and implement evaluation projects for chronic hepatitis B and C surveillance systems -- Match chronic hepatitis B and C surveillance data to death certificates; coordinate investigations for hepatitis patients newly identified by matching -- Supervise College Aides -- Investigate healthcare-related hepatitis B and C cases and outbreaks -- Evaluate hepatitis reporting by labs; follow up with labs to resolve problems -- Analyze chronic hepatitis B and C surveillance data to: 1) develop useful ways to present the data and 2) refine prevalence estimates and 3) identify groups likely to have high rates of undiagnosed hepatitis -- Participate in response activities as needed in public health emergencies PREFERRED SKILLS: - Have a Master's degree in public health or a related field. - Have a minimum of 4 years of recent experience in public health or a related field, with at least 18 months of this experience in an administrative, managerial, or consultative capacity - Proficient in data management and analysis including knowledge of quantitative, qualitative and database management programs (SPSS, SAS, SQL, etc.) - Have experience with infectious disease epidemiology - Have excellent oral and written communication skills.
